Hello! My name is Maryam, but you can call me MK, and I’m absolutely thrilled to welcome you to my blog! 😃

Baking is my passion, and my goal is to provide you with straightforward, from-scratch, and quality-tested recipes. I want to empower you to bake confidently, creating delicious treats to share with your loved ones.

A little more about me…

I was born and raised in Auckland, New Zealand, where I currently live with my husband, Zakariyya. He’s my greatest supporter, and Cakes by MK wouldn’t exist without him!

My parents were born in Fiji, but they’re of Indian heritage, making me a proud Fijian Indian Kiwi! 😃 I have two older brothers and an incredible extended family who often serve as my taste testers!

I graduated with an Honors degree in Psychology and worked in social services and marketing before my husband and I spent a year studying in Malaysia. That year was unforgettable, filled with amazing experiences and food. Malaysia holds a special place in my heart—and my stomach!

After returning to New Zealand, we decided to start our own business. During this time, I began experimenting with cake decorating, which led to the creation of Cakes by MK. Although I’ve always loved baking, cake decorating was a new adventure for me. I started by experimenting at home, taking cake orders, and launching my YouTube channel, which began to gain traction thanks to your support.

However, balancing cake orders, my YouTube channel, and managing a severe form of psoriatic arthritis became overwhelming. My body needed a break, so I decided to focus solely on my YouTube channel and content creation.

This shift allowed me to realize that many of you were eager for more recipes, which was exciting because I love baking and experimenting in the kitchen! I began sharing more recipes and decided it was time to launch a proper food blog to make my recipes easily accessible for you all. 😃
